Have you ever wondered if using application frameworks are too complex for an intermediate non-technical user? You’re not alone. Here I wanted to try answering this question about non-technical users using the Genesis framework.
What is Genesis?
In short, Genesis is a framework that runs your website in the WordPress web publishing system. When you use WordPress, the engine for your website is the WordPress core. it’s the stuff you don’t often see and that makes everything work. But along with the core engine, you need to make your site look good and add specific functions to it. In WordPress, you use a theme to hook into the WordPress core. The themes job is to give everything a solid layout and to make everything look nice.
Genesis framework provides a theme foundation for your site. It is intended to give you a secure and solid starting point for your website to which you can add on and customize the most important things you need to build a great website. One of the great things about the Genesis framework is, if you are a developer with lots of experience you can build your site with completely customized specs and if you don’t have a lot of experience building websites, you can still choose one of the child themes. Child themes are prefabricated designs that fit into a framework. They give you the ability to change the look and layout of your site without losing the secure foundation it’s built on. There are over 40 unique child themes available with Genesis. People say Genesis is renowned for its fast loading code and SEO focused structure.
How is Genesis much more than a mere WordPress theme?
Genesis is,
- A foundation that erases the headaches of security concerns and updates
- A framework of perfectly clean code that spoon-feed your content to search engines
- A foundry that lets you craft your website with hundreds of child themes
- An industry standard of WordPress website frameworks well supported by the best developers.
Who is the Genesis Framework For?
Now let me tell you who can use Genesis. There are two different categories of WordPress users who will certainly appreciate the Genesis Framework:
- Those looking for a premium off-the-shelf WordPress theme (Non-technical users)
- Developers seeking a platform to build their custom themes on
Why Genesis for Non-technical Users?
Here are just a few why I recommend Genesis even for non-technical users.
1. If I need help or run into problems with Genesis, I have a number of options to get support. I can open a support ticket with StudioPress; can create thread in the support forums or ask one of my friends. After all we have a great community to support.
2. I can do anything and everything I like. It offers me endless design and customization possibilities.
3. A lot of plugins support to extend the capabilities of my website. Right from built-in SEO settings to mobile responsive child themes, Genesis has all kinds of features right out of the box. And if a feature isn’t available already, you can almost bet someone has created a plugin to integrate it.
4. I can always update the framework easily and safely. Genesis child themes are more of a paint job, any functionality changes in the update won’t affect the way your site looks.
5. Once you learn it, it is easy to use and always the same. Even if you want to change to a different child theme, it still works the same way.
These are the multitude of reasons to use the Genesis framework, and you don’t have to be a designer or developer to benefit from them. With that, I am done for the post.
All right, thanks for reading and I hope to see you next time bye.
