Google Photos has introduced a groundbreaking new feature called “Ask Photos,” which leverages artificial intelligence to enhance your photo search experience. This innovative tool allows you to query your photo library using natural language, enabling more complex and nuanced searches.
This is initially available to select users in the United States as part of Google Labs. Ask Photos is powered by Google’s Gemini AI model. By understanding the content and metadata of your photos, the AI can provide more relevant and accurate search results.
A new way to search for images
Previously, Google Photos users could only search for specific people, places, or things. With Ask Photos, you can now ask a wider range of questions, such as “What was the best photo from my trip to Hawaii?” or “When did I last go camping in Yosemite?” The AI analyzes various factors, including lighting, blurriness, and background distortion, to determine the “best” photo from a given set.

Beyond photo retrieval, Ask Photos can also provide helpful answers to your questions. For example, you can ask, “What themes did I use for my child’s last four birthdays?” or “Where did we order food from last time we went to this restaurant?” The AI can analyze your photos to identify themes, locations, and other relevant details.
Early access to Ask Photos
Early access to Ask Photos is rolling out to select U.S. users as part of Google Labs. To access Ask Photos, you can Sign up for the waitlist to request early access. It’s important to note that Google’s AI Principles guide the development of this feature, ensuring that your private data is not used for advertising purposes. While Google employees may review your queries to improve the AI, your answers will not be reviewed unless you reach out for support or feedback. With Ask Photos, Google Photos is revolutionizing the way we search for and interact with our photos. This powerful AI-powered feature offers a more intuitive and personalized search experience, making it easier to find the photos you’re looking for and uncover hidden memories.
